For ages, Serpent Point has struck fear into the hearts of sailors and foreign traders alike. Because of rumors surrounding it, ships avoid Serpent Point, which has attracted a large amount of smugglers.
Rumors first sprouted when a trade ship from Fort Sakura crashed against the rocks during a treacherous thunderstorm. As the winds echoed through the caverns, they produced an ear-piercing hiss that mimicked a sea serpent. The crashing waves threw large pieces of undersea vegetation across the ship, and created a convincing serpent in the darkness. When the soaked and worn survivors wandered into a nearby inn, the story quickly spread throughout the region. There wasn’t a barkeep around who hadn’t heard the tale at least once.
Using the rumors to their advantage, smugglers set up a depot for smuggling goods in and out of Fort Sakura. The smuggling depot, which has gained the nickname “The Serpent’s Den” after the story and the presence of a docile, aquatic snake, manages and organizes shipments. Currently, a few smugglers live in the den to ensure its safety and keep the terrifying reputation alive.
