Heidi's shots go wide but as Taliesin pulls his blade from the creature it lets out a final screech before collapsing to the ground dead. Its mate seems enraged by this, biting at Doran.

Sister Armantine takes a deep breath, centering her aim, before driving her halberd deep into the underbelly of the remaining wyvern. As she tears her weapon free, the beast is brought low — finally succumbing to the expedition's onslaught.

Goddess, may their deaths be traded for our lives. Thank you, she prays, the strength of her conviction dulling the pain.

End Encounter

The Sea Wyvern falls down to ground, its blood painting the rocky surface of the beach a deep crimson that shines in the sunlight.

"Well hopefully that's the last of them," Ko says, wiping the beast's blood from his hammer and hooking it back onto his belt.

Ahead of you, further down the beach, the wreck of the Wanderer looms. While its masts are snapped and its sails and rigging are a tangled mess of rope and canvas, its hull appears mostly intact, lacking any large gashes they would provide easy access to the ship's lower decks. It lean away from you at about a 30 degree angle, resting against the rocky outcropping that forms the end of the beach, presenting you with its splintered and barnacle gnarled underside.

"I think we'll have to climb up no matter how we approach," Zemi says looking towards the vessel. "Up the hull itself or up the rocks on the other side."

Walking confidently in her step after the death of the two wyverns, Sister Armantine looks solemnly on the wreckage before her. A shame, seeing their vessel make it all this way only to be lost mere steps from its goal.

"I remember seeing a grappling hook or two amongst our supplies, but whose pack it ended up in I cannot say. We could use that to secure ropes to the railing on the topdeck — or whatever remains of it," She suggests. "If that fails, I would wager my chances better on that outcropping. I imagine it easier to ensure foothold on rock than barnacle."

Doran scales the hull with apparent ease, seeming to glide between the various barnacles and wooden fixtures he uses as hand and foot holds. Atop the wreck, he is able to secure the grappling hook and lets down the rope, the excess of which curls into a neat spiral at the base of the ship's hull.

Doran
After letting down the rope, you have a moment to look around. With the angle the ship is leaning, keeping your footing as you move around is tricky but there are enough railings in arms reach to keep yourself upright. The main deck is a mess of debris from the broken masts overhead, although most of this debris has gathered on the far side of the ship, piled up against the railings thanks to the angle of the deck.

A large rusted iron grate sits in the centre of the deck, between two masts, likely leading down into the ship's hold. To either side of you, the fore and aft-castles both appear relatively intact, although you can see that a couple of large crates have fallen in such a way as to block the door that leads inside the aft-castle.

Armantine marvels at the speed and security of Doran's ascent. By all the beautiful creatures the Goddess has made, she thinks to herself with a private smile.

With the help of the rope, she plants her feet on the barnacled hull, climbing slowly but surely up toward the top.

Raj shakes his head, his boots sliding across the barnacled hull. Perhaps I should have broken them in prior to our voyage. Yet who expected us to be trapezing about like that traveling circus.

He takes a step back, feigning relacing his boots as he allows the others to distract themselves with climbing first. Once he sees an opening, he steps into the shadow of the hull. Yet where boots may fail, paws will not. Deep in momentary focus, his body shrinks and shifts, assuming the form of a black cat, still bearing his striking eyes.

Looking for an opening where he'll go unseen, felid Raj dashes up the hull. He reassumes his form amidst the crowd, hoping he went unnoticed. It may not be a secret, but explaining is often more trouble than it is worth. Though at least none of those damned Tenants are with us.

As the others climb up to join you atop the Wanderer, you catch a glimpse of a black cat hopping over the railings and into the crowd forming on the deck. As the cat then passes behind one of your number, rather than the cat emerging on the other side, Raj steps out.
Taliesin
As you wait your turn to attempt a climb up the side of the ship, you notice Raj move to the side after failing to find purchase on the hull for his own ascend. You look away for a moment, but when you look back Raj is gone and you spot a black cat scrambling its way up the side of the ship.
Everyone Else
You notice nothing out of the ordinary as the group takes turns climbing the rope.

Taliesin double takes at the sudden cat - unsure of what to think, and not even truly sure of where it came from, he takes his turn to climb the rope. He wipes his hands off on his trousers, looking up at it; "If I grab here, and... here... And place my feet like... so, then it should be as simple as..." He mumbles to himself, and using his memory of a book on climbing he read lord knows how many years earlier, he begins scaling the side of the boat.

Once Taliesin makes his ascent, Heidi grabs the rope as well and makes for the top with the others, though she loses her grip. Her second attempt, however, sees more success as she shimmies her way to the top.

Raj feels relieved, the expectation of questioning only being met with the task at hand. Let us hope I can maintain this act in the future. But gods, that may grow tiresome. We'll play it by ear, hm?

He steps toward the hold, peering through the grate into the dimmed belly of the hull. "Indeed, but proceed with care, yes? We cannot speak for the stability of this wood, nevermind what life might be roaming about."

As Doran attempts to open the grate, he finds it rusted shut. It appears it would take a great feat of strength or a concerted effort and the use of tools to get the grate open.

Sister Armantine watches as the rusted grate stops even the mighty Doran. "That way," she suggests, pointing her halberd toward the unblocked door to the forecastle. This is in much worse condition than I had thought. Goddess guide my steps.

"More than likely a safer approach," Raj responds with a nod, striding over toward the forecastle's door. He tests its handles, curious if the door is unlocked or otherwise accessible. If the grate is like that, will the same be said for the hinges?

Heidi frowns as Doran's efforts to open the grate fail, instead following after the others as they approach the door. "Perhaps safer, perhaps not. At least with the grate we've the luxury of seeing what is behind it. Hopefully the path past this door is empty of further threats," she responds, not eager to have to fight more of the region's wildlife. First a giant fish, then a sea dragon. This land certainly does not welcome us with open arms, I cannot imagine any other denizens of the wreck will be friendly either.

Raj tries the door handle and finds the door unlocked. As he opens it, something does seem to block it for a moment, but a firmer shove quickly clears the blockage, allowing the door to open fully revealing the interior of the forecastle. The room appears to have served as a living area for the crew or passengers, with a large number of musty canvas hammocks hung from the ceiling above a series of long wooden tables and benches. While you would expect the room to be dimly lit, a large hole in the deck above lets in the sunlight, as well as several vines. Towards the ship's prow in the back corner of the room, past the opening overhead, appears to be a large nest, made from a mixture of natural plant materials and debris from the ship wreck.

"A nest," Armantine notices. "Perhaps those winged ones were simply defending where they call home. Now, I wonder if there were more of them? A nesting pair alone gives me pause."

Armantine's observation earns a nod of agreement from Eldrin. "Aye, could be. But we best be prepared for anything. Let's not assume they're the only inhabitants of this wreck." He scans the room once more, his senses heightened as he keeps a vigilant watch for any further signs of activity or potential threats lurking within the shadows.

As Taliesin makes his way into the cabin with the others and has the nest pointed out, he pauses. He tries to listen for any noise, holding a hand out to get the others to stop moving.

Taliesin squints his eyes, "I hear nothing. If there is anything on this ship, it's hiding. I imagine if there is, it probably knows we're here." He says, knowing he has nothing to back that statement up, but he'd rather say that and be wrong than to assume they're safe.

Egg shards? Armantine considers. Those beasts were a horror made real. Though I imagine their offspring could be domesticated, given enough time and training. I wonder if they'd make fair pets?

Making your way further into the room, you cautiously approach the nest. A couple of feet away, you are able to peer over its edge and see inside. An assortment of gnawed animal bones are littered around the nest, however nestled in the centre are two large eggs which appear to be intact.

Looking around the edges of the room, you fail to see any potential ways deeper into the bowels of the Wanderer, however as you approach the nest, you notice what appears to be the corner of a trapdoor poking out from underneath the tangled mess of branches and debris.

"Eggs," Armantine nearly shouts, her eyes alight. She feels a pang in her chest as she realizes a terrible truth — they will never see their kin, not after we dispatched them.

"We should take these two back with us. I'll not leave these young here alone to wither or be the meal of another beast."

She approaches the nest carefully, placing a hand on one of the eggs.

How big are deez eggs? Could we carry them back? Can I make a medicine or nature check to determine how far along they might be based on the eggshell development?

The eggs are each about a foot tall and a little less wide. You suspect they will be fairly heavy but moveable with some care.

"But if these flying reptiles are anything like the birds of our lands, then they may associate the caretakers at the time of hatching as true kin, be they bird or not. If we are to learn and live among the creatures of this land, the work begins here. With these." She picks one of the eggs up with great care, inspecting it closer. "Besides, the babies might be cute." The Sister smiles wide.
